Program(s) affected: T1 Document created: 02 18, 2009
Tax year(s): 2008 Document last modified:
Version(s): 12.10, 12.11 Problem status: Fixed in v12.13

I have a client for whom the Tax Credit for Home-Support Services for Seniors (Schedule J (Quebec)) is not calculated properly because the program is calculating the Personal care service Supplement for months where one of the spouses was not entitled to the Supplement. Why is that?

In order for this situation to occur, all of the following criteria have to be present:
  • Option "Yes" is selected under the Resid-SpDiffApp keyword (did the spouse lived in the same citizen’s residence but in an other room or apartment);
  • Only one of the spouses is regarded as a dependant seniors (i.e. option "Yes" is selected in the DependentSeniors keyword or in the Spouse-DepSenior keyword)*;
  • Personal care service is included in the cost of the spouse rent (keyword RESIDPERSSERV );
* The calculation error will also occur in the situation where both spouses are regarded as dependant seniors AND at least one of them became a dependent senior in 2008

Please contact our support team if you have clients in this situation.
